Reaching New Heights: Different Uses for Podium Steps

When it comes to working at low level heights, you may need that extra step or two to make the job easier when it’s not quite feasible to work from the ground. A full on ladder or scaffolding platform is unnecessarily big for such use, so what’s the alternative?

Podium steps - that’s your answer! Read on below as we discuss what these are and when they may be used.

What’s the Difference Between Podium Steps and Step Ladders?

The main difference between podium steps and step ladders is their safety features and design.

Many step ladders will fold out to create a triangle shape in order to create a stable support base, with there being steps on one side leading up to a small, square platform. They also have a high handrail that can be held on to for support when at the highest point of the step ladder.

In comparison, podium steps tend to have either a square base, or a triangular base with an additional supporting leg at either side for extra stability. The platform at the top of their steps is also then encased by a metal frame, offering a protected working space with a reduced risk of falling.

What are Podium Steps Used for?

There are many scenarios in which the use of podium steps can be applied, whether this be for personal or commercial use. For the sake of keeping this blog at a readable length, we’ll just discuss an example for each.

Domestic Use

Painting

Could your home do with a little refresh? Perhaps you simply feel like switching things up and having a new colour scheme in one (or multiple!) of the rooms in your home. Either way, you’ll want the job to be done properly so that it looks as neat as possible.

When it comes to painting walls inside your home, you typically need to go over the edges and corners with a smaller brush once you’ve finished. When it comes to doing the parts where your walls meet your ceiling, podium steps give you the height you need to reach these areas whilst keeping you safe and secure.

Commercial Use

Construction

Construction can include many different jobs - plenty of which involve working at a low level height. It could be anything from installing a sign above a door, repairing a broken wall or constructing a ceiling.

Such jobs typically require a worker to use both hands and require them to focus, so podium steps allow them to do just that without the risk that they will lose balance and fall whilst working, which is more likely to happen were they to just use a step ladder.
